ABOUT SAM

I’m passionate and ambitious when it comes to what I do, which is using words to tell nuanced and complex stories in a simple way to get across the message at hand. The need for communicating a message, educating and inspiring is how to thrive in the 21st century - that’s where I come in. Being a creative, adaptable and hardworking journalist and editor has provided the skills necessary to work on various mediums and a range of topics. It has also equipped me with the ability to craft websites, podcasts and editorial content, produced magazines, marketing copy and social media content.

Always having believed there’s a lot of power behind the written word and have been mesmerised by its ability to give a voice to underrepresented issues. This is why I want to write for organisations that drive positive social change and provoke conversations. Ergo, I want to write insightful stories centering primarily around true-life as I specialise in true-life journalism and current affairs - that is where my heart lies. Alongside this, I am passionate about writing insightful stories in my specialism which is sustainability, social justice topics and human rights.

My skills in interviewing and communications have been utilised through written reviews, features and audio, when telling the stories of those affected by the welfare system in the form of rigorous reporting, research and videos for a solutions journalism project where I was also responsible for copy editing and website design, alongside having the initiative to launch an audio version of a newsletter to make it accessible to everyone. I’ve covered sensitive issues regarding class, inequality and reproductive rights as well as shared my thoughts in a newspaper column whilst working with other young writers to bring their articles to life

I’ve edited podcasts, led on the content for magazines, edited a newspaper column, designed websites including Are We Human, launched newsletters and podcasts, worked in an agency capacity to strategise clients content, and contributed words to print and online publications including Paranting Magazine, Yorkshire Evening Post, Empoword Journalism and Issues Online.

The latest project I've been working on is It's a Bud Time - a podcast about cannabis and legalisation in the UK. It's educational, It's breaking the stigma, It's honest.
